A key moment in the life of the association, the General Assembly is an opportunity to collectively determine our network's objectives. This year, Efus has decided to open part of this meeting to the public in the form of five online sessions in order to encourage the exchange of ideas and practices among urban security actors.

URBAN AGENDA

Urban Authorities that are members of the Partnership on the Security of Public Spaces of the Urban Agenda for the European Union, which is co-led by the cities of Nice (France), Madrid (Spain) and Efus, have called the EU institutions to “acknowledge, consider and involve [them] in the elaboration of any foreseen relevant regulation related to the Cohesion Policy and in the programming of the new Cohesion Policy,” in a declaration published on 30 November 2020.

AUDITS & METHODOLOGY

The Efus-led IcARUS (Innovative AppRoaches to Urban Security) project held online its first coordination meeting on 17 December, gathering representatives from the consortium's 17 partners, which include six European cities, to discuss the project's main objectives.

It is essential to precisely measure the real and perceived degree of security in a region, a city or a neighbourhood in order to design security strategies that effectively meet local residents' needs and expectations. As we open a new section in Efus Network dedicated to reflection and exchange on security audits, we review how this approach long promoted by Efus has evolved over the years.

DISCRIMINATORY VIOLENCE

Rolled out on the occasion of the European Week of Sport, #weplayfair seeks to raise awareness among young sport practitioners, their coaches and their parents on discrimination and violence in amateur sport and to showcase the actions carried out as part of the MATCH-SPORT project. Follow us and help us disseminate the campaign on Facebook and Instagram.

> The campaign's materials are available to our members exclusively on Efus Network!

As part of the MATCH-SPORT European project, Efus, together with the project partners, led a state-of-the-art study on the degree of awareness of discriminatory violence in amateur sport and existing prevention schemes in seven European countries. We review the study's main conclusions.

INTERNATIONAL

Efus took part in UN-Habitat’s Expert Group Meeting on global urban safety indicators and monitoring tool, which was organised online on 26-28 October 2020 by the UN-Habitat Country Office in Spain and UN-Habitat Safer Cities Programme, with the support of the Madrid City Council.

PUBLIC SPACES

How can local authorities and security actors better protect vulnerable public spaces and the citizens who use them? Started in January 2019, the PACTESUR project (Protecting Allied Cities against TErrorism by Securing Urban aReas) seeks to answer this question. We take stock of the project's progress so far and of the challenges that we foresee for the future.

>>>>> PRACTICE SHEETS

How can community police be close to citizens and thus more efficient on the ground without infringing on their fundamental rights? A factsheet from the Cutting Crime Impact (CCI) project.
The TO-Nite project, led by the city of Turin and in which Efus is a partner, conducted an in-depth ethnographic and social study to measure how residents from two neighbourhoods of this Italian city perceive security at night.

>>>>> DID YOU KNOW?

Due to the global health crisis and travel restrictions, we decided to postpone our international Security, Democracy & Cities conference, which was scheduled in May 2021. In order to receive you in the best conditions, ensure that all our European colleagues can attend, and guarantee this event's proper international dimension, we now invite you to join us on 20, 21 and 22 October 2021 in Nice (France).
