The 17 partners of the new IcARUS (Innovative AppRoach to Urban Security) European project, which is designed and led by Efus and seeks to thoroughly reconsider the tools used in urban security through the analysis of research and practices conducted in the past three decades, took part in the two-day, online kick off meeting, on 21 and 22 September. Of a duration of four years, this project funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research programme is at once innovative, ambitious and particularly important for Efus.

As part of the MATCH-SPORT project, Efus is broadcasting an online communication campaign during the European Week of Sport, from 23 to 30 September 2020. #weplayfair aims to raise awareness among young players, their coaches and their parents on discrimination and violence in amateur sport, and to promote the actions carried out as part of the project. Follow us and please spread the message on Facebook et Instagram.

The PRoTECT project on the protection of urban public spaces, in which Efus is a partner, held its second yearly seminar in July with a series of three web conferences on “technological and human-centred solutions to protect public spaces against terrorist threats.”
In the framework of the PACTESUR project, the city of Turin (IT) is pleased to invite you to the second European Week of Security, which will be held online on 19-23 October. The agenda includes topics such as terrorist threats, crisis management and communication, design and management of urban security, the use of digital tools and the impact of Covid-19 on the management of public spaces. In addition, the project will present its main results and the 11 partner cities and the group's multidisciplinary experts will share their experiences. The programme and registration will soon be available.

The TONITE project led by the municipality of Turin (IT), in which Efus is a partner and which seeks to improve the liveability and accessibility of two neighbourhoods of that city, in particular at night, has used research methods inspired by ethnography to measure local feelings of insecurity. These can inspire other European local authorities willing to investigate how local residents experience their neighbourhood, notably at night.

The Internet and social media facilitate citizen involvement in various tasks of governance and law enforcement with the aim of improving the quality of public services. This can be done through websites, online platforms, mobile applications or other innovative digital communication channels. This factsheet was produced by the Security & Innovation working group.

Efus has produced over the years some 60 publications on a wide range of topics: drugs, women, police, youth, sport, discrimination, radicalisation... Published in several languages, these books are a unique resource in Europe and available free of charge for our members.
