The alternative narrative campaigns created by young citizens from nine European cities who were partners in the Efus-led LOUD project to promote inclusivity and tolerance against discriminations and extremism have had a positive impact on the target audiences, but also wider benefits for the participating youths and the partner cities, according to the evaluation report prepared by the project's experts.

After two and a half years, the PRoTECT project on the protection of public spaces concluded with a final conference that gathered about 100 participants online between 14 and 16 June. The objective was to share the tools developed by the project and the lessons learned, as well as to propose an exchange platform to help cities to better protect their public spaces and vulnerable targets.

Nightlife has been particularly hit by the Covid-related restrictions, which have had dire consequences for the whole nightlife ecosystem and more broadly for the economic, social and cultural life of cities. European municipalities now want to restart it. But how? This was the theme of a web conference organised by Efus’ Nightlife & Security working group, on 23 June.

The Liège Night Council disseminates prevention messages against alcohol and drug abuse and sexual harassment in nightlife venues in the Le Carré neighbourhood, in the city centre.

The ToNite project, which is led by and implemented in the City of Turin (Italy), has produced this factsheet on community engagement and empowerment activities that seek to involve local communities and stakeholders in co-designing solutions to enhance the security of public spaces, in particular at night.

   
   
   

Publication of the month


The Security, Democracy and Cities: co-producing urban security policies manifesto expresses Efus' and its members' position about the main current urban security issues. This key document, which is both a political stance and a roadmap for our members, will provide the basis for discussions at the eponymous international conference in Nice, France, on 20-22 October.
